    The Belasco Theatre
    October 3rd, 2025
    L7 – Lunachicks – CSS – Bonavega

Our 40th anniversary show at The Belasco in downtown L.A. was one for the books — sweaty, electric, and filled with faces from every chapter of L7’s history. To celebrate four decades of this band in our hometown, in a sold-out room packed with people who flew in from all over the U.S., Brazil, Australia, and Canada, was beyond surreal. Seeing the energy, the chaos, and the love coming back at us from that crowd reminded me why L7 started in the first place — because punk rock still connects us like nothing else can.

And let’s talk about that lineup — holy hell, even Music Connection took notice! Our sisters, Lunachicks, tore it up for their first L.A. show in 25 years, and it felt like no time had passed at all. The second they hit the stage, the place just exploded. CSS brought their infectious, unpredictable energy — we’ve shared stages before, but they always manage to twist things into something new and wild. And Bonavenga opened the night with serious fire, setting the tone for what was about to be an unforgettable celebration. The Belasco was shaking from the first note to the last scream, and you could feel the floor move under your feet — that’s how alive it was in there.

Backstage, it was just as special. Friends, old tourmates, photographers, and fans L7 have known for decades were all swapping stories and hugs, taking in the fact that we’ve somehow been doing this for 40 years. None of us could’ve imagined back in the day that this little punk band would still be here — still loud, still fierce, still making noise that matters. Nights like this remind me that punk doesn’t age; it just evolves, gets louder, and keeps finding its people. From the bottom of my heart — thank you for showing up, singing your lungs out, and keeping the fire burning all these years.

  • 2024 Year in Revue!

    2024 Year in Revue!

From sweaty rehearsal rooms to wild nights on the road, from DIY spaces to (not so DIY stages)—2024 was a year I won’t forget. I threw myself into new projects, crossed paths with some incredible humans, played packed festivals and clubs, and pushed myself creatively in ways I didn’t see coming. Now that the dust has settled (kind of), I’m looking back at the highlights, the surprises, and the moments that made it all worth it. Whether you’ve been along for the ride or just tuning in, here’s a peek behind the scenes at what made this year so damn special. – Jennifer Finch

    SQUARE PEGS  IN ROUND HOLES

    SQUARE PEGS IN ROUND HOLES

LA’s raucous L7 don’t fit comfortably into the music biz conception of what an all-girl band should be. They’re not blonde or cute, their name means ‘square and unhip’, their lyrics strike uncomfortable chords. And they’re infamous for throwing tampons from the Reading Festival stage! Now bludgeoning UK shores as support to Faith No More, bassist JENNIFER FINCH has plenty of stories to tell. MORAT could barely get a word in edgeways!

FOR REASONS, best kept quiet, I was watching children’s TV the other day, some shitty American ‘comedy.’ When one of the characters stuck his hands together in the same way as the L7 logo. He went on to demonstrate how the sign means ‘square’, as in ‘boring old fart’, and suddenly the world was a slightly brighter place.

However the band were not, after all, in some knees — bent — trousers — down secret sect with funny handshakes like the Freemasons. They were still the four foul-mouthed female noise yobs who seem to get bigger and better every time they hit these shores. With this mystery safely out of the way – don’t pretend you knew all along! I ask bassist/vocalist Jennifer Finch the other question that’s burning everyone’s lips. Was that a real tampon? They threw at the crowd when they blew most of the other bands offstage at the Reading Festival this Summer?

“Of course!” laughs Jennifer. “They threw mud, Donita (Sparks – guitar/vocals) threw blood! It was just a sign of appreciation.
“We had a lot of fun playing,” she recalls, “but frankly, we’d just arrived. We’d flown from America to Berlin, played a festival, and then got on another plane immediately after and went to Reading. The airline lost our equipment, so we were playing on all borrowed stuff except for a few guitars, so there were a lot of things to worry about up there.”

Unforgettable Moments: From Reading Festival Tampon Toss to Faith No More Tour

I NOTICED a couple of the Lunachicks up there during L7’s set, catching mud pies: do all girl bands stick together at times like that? “I just think a lot of bands stick together,” shrugs Jennifer. “We stick together with the Lunachicks cos they’re friends of ours, but we also stick together with other bands; like, Nirvana helped us out, Teenage Fanclub helped us out, Mudhoney helped us out, The Melvins helped us out – and Bjorn Again helped us oat,” Finch adds with an unnerving laugh. “We borrowed their costumes!”

“Y know,” says Jennifer conversationally, “we just came from Australia, where they’re from, and it really is a huge phenomenon with cover, bands over there. We saw a Sabbath cover band and a Fleetwood Mac cover band. It was incredible!” How would you feel if there was an L7 cover band?

“Funny you should ask,” grins Jennifer, as if she’s been leading me straight to the subject, “but there actually is an L7 tribute band in Chicago, called Corduroy. We saw an ad for it when they were trying to put the band together! The ad said, ‘L7 tribute band forming’, so we each called it up. Donita called and said, ‘I’m interested in being in the band: I play a Flying V just like Donita from L7, I have the same hair as Donita from L&. I AM DONITA FROM L7’! It gets boring on the road – we have to entertain ourselves somehow!”

So what other games do you play on the road? “I’m not gonna tell you,” Finch feigns coyness. “That’s very personal. No, we do very mundane things – you’re just putting me on the spot because we don’t have anything exciting to tell you! But we’ve just started this tour with Faith No More, so I’m sure by the end of it, we’ll have plenty of stories…”

NATURALLY, IT turns out that L7’s idea of mundane isn’t a definition you’d find in any dictionary.

In Australia,” relates Jennifer, “we actually made a commitment to each other that we weren’t gonna fall into loaf mode, where all we can do is play a show and then lie around all day on the bus. So Donita and I went bungy jumping, and we all went surfing, and I went horse riding. “Julian Lennon bungy jumped where we jumped,” she adds, “and it was so violating! They had this wall dedicated to him. It had pictures of him getting out of the car, registering to jump, and getting the ropes tied around. Every step was documented!

It was a real violation of privacy.” Foot in mouth, I mutter something about how they should have cut the ropes. “We’ve met Julian Lennon,” Jennifer continues, ignoring my dumb comments. “You know that we have a Yoko Ono sample on the beginning of ‘Wargasm’? Well, Julian Lennon came to a couple of our shows and bought a ‘Smell The Magic’ T-shirt! He got kicked out of a French club for wearing it too!

“In Australia,” Jennifer barely pauses for breath, “Suzi (Gardner – guitar/vocals) was doing an Interview for a university paper.
You know how they have Popular Culture classes? There’s a ‘Popular Culture in Modern Music Class’, and the topics are Madonna, Elvis and L7, so they had a whole chapter on L7. What do you think of that?”

Weird, to be honest. What do you think? “I don’t really think about it,” Finch muses briefly. “I’m very honoured, but at the same time there’s disbelief and I don’t have any feelings about it. I’ll tell you something else as well…”

And she’s off again, bubbling over with a lust for life and telling me about the all-girl rock ’n’ roll high school where pupils are taught to play everything from Guns N’ Roses to…

“We saw a nine-year-old girl doing a private recital on drums, doing Mudhoney songs. They have these song lists – and we’re on one of the song lists. That was an honour!”

I N JUST half — an — hour we discuss everything from American politics to punk rock, from music business rip-offs to anthropology (Finch has just finished a book on the subject and is now reading Tom Robbins’ ‘Still Life Of A Woodpecker’).

Eventually we get back to the subject of L7, and I ask about that infamous tribal paint they’ve been sporting this year.
“That was just something that we did for fun,” Finch tells me. “Originally, we started doing it because we did this performance in about 1987 where it was a spoof on female wrestling. “We played our set, and Donita and I were the bad girls, and Suzi and this other friend of ours were the good girls. Additionally, they were blonde and got all dressed up in pink. Donita and I were, like, the road warrior gas-guzzling bad girls – and we wrestled them!”

Is that the side you’d choose in that ‘Mad Max ’-type situation? “I’d be whoever could survive the longest,” says Jennifer, “and the most callous always are able grab the hot coals.”

What? You’ve been watching too many episodes of ‘Kung Fu’! “I’m giving you quotes!” protests Finch. But they don’t make sense.
“I know,” she laughs. “That’s the best part!”

“We actually made a commitment to each other that we weren’t gonna fall into loaf mode… So Donita and I went bungy jumping…” – JENNIFER FINCH on L7’s offstage relaxation technique!

  • October 2023 – In Your Space and South America in review

October 2023 – In Your Space and South America in review

What a crazy month October 2023 has been! Let’s review!

From the “Cooler Than Mars” flexi-disc single release to the LOVE we felt from everyone who rocked with us across North and South America. Playing these more intimate venues was a blast. We don’t make it to South America as often as we’d like so October 2023 was an amazing month of meeting new challenges and getting reacquainted. Hence, everyone who showed up on this tour brought it hard each night. And I’m not using the term “unforgettable” liberally; our fans are incredible. We don’t take their unwavering support for granted.

Additionally, in retrospect, the L7 “US IN YOUR SPACE” tour across North America and the electrifying South America Tour in October 2023 was nothing short of remarkable. These shows reaffirmed the band’s unbreakable bond with our L7 fans, friends and family.

It was exciting to see all the hands in the air when we asked who was seeing L7 for the first time.

    US leg of Tour

The US leg of the tour was a whirlwind of energy. With fans of all backgrounds coming together to rock out to L7’s iconic tunes. It was heartwarming to witness new fans discovering the band and the sheer diversity among our audience members. It’s clear that L7’s music transcends so many of the kinds of divisions that can trick people into being divisive, and there’s no longer a specific “L7 Type.” We’re grateful for the continued evolution of our fanbase and the inclusivity that defines our community.

Here is a reminder of the L7 US SHOW DATES “IN YOUR SPACE:”
Thu, SEP 14 Wonder Bar Asbury Park, NJ
Sat, SEP 16 Brighton Music Hall Allston, MA
Sun, SEP 17 Gramercy Theatre New York, NY
Mon, SEP 18 Black Cat Washington, DC
Thu, SEP 21 Louder Than Life 2023 Louisville, KY
Mon, OCT 2 The Venice West Venice, CA
Tue, OCT 3 House of Blues San Diego San Diego, CA
Thu, OCT 5 Aftershock 2023 Sacramento, CA
Sat, OCT 7 Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown, CA

After a brief interlude in Los Angeles, we took our music to South America, where we were met with open arms and unmatched enthusiasm. Returning to Brazil felt like reuniting with an old friend, and our shows in São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, and Rio de Janeiro were electric. The energy and passion of South American fans lit up the stage and reminded us why we do what we do.

    L7 SOUTH AMERICA TOUR 2023

    2023-10-20 São Paulo, Brazil 🇧🇷 @CariocaClub
2023-10-22 Ribeirão Preto, Brazil 🇧🇷 * @hrc.ribeiraopreto (this venue changed a few times – we played Hard Rock)
    2023-10-24 Curitiba, Brazil 🇧🇷 * @TorkandRoll

    2023-11-02 Santiago, Chile 🇨🇱 @blondieclubcl
    2023-11-04 Bogata, Colombia 🇨🇴 @aceofspadesclub1

There was a little bit of concern that due to the pandemic and other factors, our S. Additionally, American fans and friends may have lost interest since our 2018 in Brazil shows — or that it really has been so so many years since we play the Hollywood Rock Festival and perhaps it would not be the best time for us…. especially not sure what to expect with Colombia and Argentina, two cities we visited for the first time.

However, everyone from São Paulo to Bogata, every show was fantastic! Those shows went off like a pressure cooker exploding with love. Our dates with Black Flag were incredible; they were tight, and it was great to see these songs in action for the Brazilian audience. A surprise appearance by L7’s Suzi Gardner on their song “Slip It In” (read more here). As in Chile, Santiago L7 fans packed out Club Blondie and showed us that nails-in-skin rock n’ roll is still alive and well throughout the capital. Club Blondie was a total, amazing surprise; it is (literally) an underground room about 4 floors deep, under the city, directly below an open-air market.

There is something unique about the warmth and intensity of L7 fans from South America. I just can not say that enough. Here, I will try and say it in Spanish and in Portuguese:

Hay algo único en la calidez y la intensidad de los fanáticos de L7 de Sudamérica.
Há algo único no calor e na intensidade dos torcedores do L7 da América do Sul.

the L7 journey doesn’t end here.

As we wrap up this incredible voyage through the Americas, we’re deeply humbled and grateful. It’s thanks to our dedicated fans that we’ve been able to rock on for four decades, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.

With anticipation building, we’re setting our sights on New Zealand and Australia for the L7 Tour in Australia 2023. Who knows what new adventures and memories await us Down Under? We’re excited to find out and to continue sharing our music with the world.

New Zealand and Australia, let’s see what you’ve got in store for us with the L7 Tour in Australia and New Zealand 2023.

  • L7’s September 2023 Round up – “Cooler Than Mars”

L7’s September 2023 Round up – “Cooler Than Mars”

And just like that, the leaves are turning. We’re thrilled about L7 September’s arrival for two reasons:

    1. Colder weather (hello, justified sweatpants season!).
    2. L7’s new heavy-hitting single, “Cooler Than Mars,” dropping on September 13th.

This unapologetic track will be available in a limited-edition four-pack set, each featuring unique graphics. Head to Kingsroad to claim yours before they’re gone for good.

“Cooler Than Mars” is just a taste of what’s to come. L7 will be hitting the road next month for a U.S. tour in the crisp Fall weather, before heading down to South America in their Springtime to wrap up October. A special shoutout to our Brazil shows: We’ll be sharing the stage with the legendary Black Flag for three nights, where they’ll perform My War along with other classic cuts. This tour follows the release of our highly-anticipated new single and the triumphant Bricks Are Heavy anniversary tour. With our signature sledgehammer-to-concrete grunge/punk sound and unapologetic attitude, L7 is ready to electrify audiences across the globe.

Okay, there might be a tiny bit of exaggeration here, but you get the point, right?

This run of U.S. shows will be especially memorable, with more intimate venues—some of which are already sold out. We’re also continuing our Fan Experience ticketing package, which was available during our Bricks Are Heavy anniversary tour. Here’s what it includes:

    • VIP L7 In Your Space tour laminate.
    • Exclusive entry to our soundcheck for one song.
    • Photo op with the band during soundcheck.
    • Four-pack of the limited-run (only 1,000 pressed!) flexi discs of the new single, “Cooler Than Mars.”
    • Early re-entry to the venue with laminate.
    • Early access to the merch booth.
    • One month FREE subscription to the new L7 Fan Club launching October 1st, 2023.

November will be a planning month before we close out the year by heading down under to perform Bricks Are Heavy for some of our craziest fans in Australia and New Zealand. WOOO!!!!!!

  • About Jennifer Precious Finch

    About Jennifer Precious Finch

    EARLY LIFE:

Jennifer Precious Finch was born August 5, 1966 in the Salvation Army Home for Unwed Mothers. In 1967 she was adopted by an Aeronautics Engineer named Robert Edward Finch and Sandra Jacobson. She was raised in Los Angeles and public school educated. Finch and Jacobson divorced in 1974, and Robert was awarded custody.

When Jennifer was nine she met Paul.Paul, a sixteen-year-old in the neighborhood would often get stuck watching all the kids on the block. Trying to avoid having to interact with the children and accept his unfortunate circumstances, Paul listened to The Ramones, Devo, and Elvis Costello to pass the time. He fed all the kids, including Finch, candy while they bounced around his home. Finch danced to his Blondie and Clash records and became engulfed in the music, so much so that she felt as if she were a part of it. This was her first introduction to punk music, or as she would refer to it:

Because of her newly sparked interest, when her father took her to the book store, she started buying books about punk music. She began taking guitar lessons and at age 11, and her father bought her tickets to a Ramones concert where she went accompanied by her guitar teacher, Mark Salerno.

“Punk Rock Was My Get-Out-Of-Van-Halen Free Card”.

At around thirteen years old, Finch, for no other reason than the fact that she wanted some adventure, became a chronic runaway. She started staying in hotels with older kids in the punk scene and was introduced to IV drugs at 14.

She began to photograph punk and hardcore bands around Los Angeles, earlier ones being the Cramps and The Dead Kennedys.

Finch began to resent institutionalized learning and was home-schooled from grades 9 to 11. During this time she was encouraged by her father, who was unaware of her drug use, to pursue her photography, which is exactly what she did.

She went back to high school in the 12th grade and graduated a semester early, finishing the year while attending community college at the same time. She went on to San Francisco State University for Computer Science and left after 2 years to pursue her music career.

    YOUNG ADULT

In the early 1980s Finch met Courtney Love through Courtney’s then-boyfriend Jeff Mann. Over the years as teenagers, they talked about starting a band. Love decided she was going to call the band Sugar Baby Doll, based on a t-shirt worn by Finch’s friend Sandy White’s brother, who was later convicted for killing a child molester while wearing the shirt.

Courtney moved to San Francisco and Finch joined her after graduating from high school. Two weeks after she moved in with Love, the house they were living in burnt down. She started school at San Francisco State and pursued Sugar Baby Doll with Courtney and Kat Bjelland (Babes in Toyland). The three piece Death Rock band which was inspired by ethereal dream-pop bands like the Cocteau Twins was together in the mid 1980’s in San Francisco and played one show. This powerful line-up lived long enough to produce a demo that remains unreleased.

After visiting Los Angeles throughout her time in San Francisco, around 1985, Finch saw friends Pete Weiss of Thelonious Monster and Scott Morrow of the band, The Fiends.

Both informed Finch at separate times that a woman at the LA Weekly was looking for a bass player. That woman was Donita Sparks who had joined with local LA spoken word pioneer Suzi Gardner to form L7.

After encouragement from yet another friend, Jula Bell of Bulimia Banquet, and later during a visit to Amsterdam Guy Pinhas of The Obsessed, Finch left college and moved back to Los Angeles to join L7 in 1986. In 1987 the band was signed to Epitaph by friend Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion. During this time, Finch worked as a booker for Triple X Records and booked bands like Dave Grohl’s pre-Nirvana band, Scream. She was also responsible for GWAR’s and the Lunachicks first performance in Los Angeles

Meanwhile, Courtney Love, who was working in a record store in Portland, sent Finch Mudhoney’s TOUCH ME I’M SICK EP and a Nirvana EP, in an attempt to urge her to move out of Los Angeles and join the growing Seattle music scene. Finch did not go North, but while playing later at an L7 show, she was overheard talking about Nirvana, and was approached by a girl who said her mother worked for a label called Subpop. Finch contacted Subpop and spoke to Danny Bland, Subpop’s booker who was also in the band Catbutt. Bland made arrangements for L7 to play for Subpop and they signed a record deal, becoming the first Single of The Month in 1990. L7 toured with Nirvana through Europe. Upon returning, they started Rock 4 Choice, a fundraiser done in conjunction with the Feminist Majority. The show featured L7, Nirvana and Hole. It was at this show that Courtney Love met Kurt Cobain for the first time.

Over the next 4 years, L7 recorded 5 full-length albums, various compilation records, appeared as actors, and recorded a song for the John Water’s film “Serial Mom”. L7 toured with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, and on the first Warped Tour and Lollapalooza. They also performed at the Reading Festival, Finsbury Park Festival, Glastonbury, and various other European, Australian, and American festivals.

    AND THEN?

In 1995 after Warped Tour and the death of her father, Finch adopted the middle name “Precious” as an homage to him (it was his nickname for her) and started Other Star People with Xander Smith. OSP signed to A&M records in a silent negotiation while Finch was still in L7. She officially left L7 in 1996. Other Star People recorded Diamonds in The Belly of the Dog and was produced by Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, The Cars, Devo) right before the label collapsed. Instead of being dropped, OtherStarPeople were moved over to Interscope. Although OSP did not have huge commercial success, their songs have well outlived the band in films like Office Space.

The Shocker was brought to Turkey by the Istanbul chapter of Turbojugend, the international fan club of Turbonegro, whom Finch cites as a heavy influence. Precious and her bassist Lisa Howe toured Turkey together as The Shocker and became the first western women to do a DIY tour of a Muslim country. This was followed by the release of The Shocker’s full-length album Up Your Asstray which was put out by Go-Kart Records.

During this time, Precious started her own label, Little Pusher Records, and released a demo by her latest band, The Shocker. The Shocker embarked on a US and European tour, and Precious temporarily relocated to Philadelphia.

In 2006, Finch produced a Ramones tribute record for St. Jude’s Children’s Charity. The album is for kids and sung by kids with guest vocals and music provided by various stars of rock, pop and punk music. The same year, an exhibit of Finch’s 1995 Warped Tour Diaries was featured at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The exhibit included a wall-sized letter written by Finch concerning community-building of people on the road at the time of the death of her father.
