    Other Star People On Bandcamp

Are you Other Star People Curious?

Absolutely! Here’s an expanded version of your blog post:

Are you Other Star People Curious?

This year marks a momentous occasion for Other Star People on Bandcamp as we celebrate the 24th anniversary of our debut album, “Diamonds In The Belly of The Do.” Waiting for a 25th anniversary seems too conventional to share the immense pride and joy this album brings me. The process of collaborating with the legendary Roy Thomas Baker was nothing short of transformative. His expertise and unique approach to music production reshaped my entire perspective on crafting pop-rock tunes.

My roots are deeply embedded in hard rock and punk music. Therefore, this album originally graced the world under the banner of the revered A&M Records and was subsequently embraced by Interscope Records. It is a testament to our musical journey and evolution. In addition, this cherished piece of our history is available for all to enjoy on Bandcamp at Bandcamp/OtherStarPeople.

    Other star People

By having Other Star People on Bandcamp, reflecting back on the inception of Other Star People in the late 1990s. I recall it as a period of significant evolution in my songwriting career. Our mission was to create a unique sound by merging the rhythmic beats of dance music with the edgy tones of New Wave. Furthermore, the reality of synthesizer costs quickly steered us in a new direction. We embraced the challenge, pivoting towards an innovative blend of indie pop infused with elements of hard rock. Therefore, created a style made possible by the guitars I already had in my arsenal.

This album is more than just a collection of songs. Therefore it’s a narrative of our artistic exploration and growth. Each track is imbued with our passion for music and the lessons learned along the way. From the gritty guitar riffs to the melodic harmonies, “Diamonds In The Belly of The Dog” stands as a proud symbol of our creative journey.

To all our fans, new and old, I invite you to revisit this album or discover it anew. Let the music take you on a journey back to a time when we were all a little more rebellious, a bit more experimental too, and comparatively deeply in love with the art of music.

    Fondly, Jennifer Finch

October 2023 – In Your Space and South America in review

What a crazy month October 2023 has been! Let’s review!

From the “Cooler Than Mars” flexi-disc single release to the LOVE we felt from everyone who rocked with us across North and South America. Playing these more intimate venues was a blast. We don’t make it to South America as often as we’d like so October 2023 was an amazing month of meeting new challenges and getting reacquainted. Hence, everyone who showed up on this tour brought it hard each night. And I’m not using the term “unforgettable” liberally; our fans are incredible. We don’t take their unwavering support for granted.

Additionally, in retrospect, the L7 “US IN YOUR SPACE” tour across North America and the electrifying South America Tour in October 2023 was nothing short of remarkable. These shows reaffirmed the band’s unbreakable bond with our L7 fans, friends and family.

It was exciting to see all the hands in the air when we asked who was seeing L7 for the first time.

    US leg of Tour

The US leg of the tour was a whirlwind of energy. With fans of all backgrounds coming together to rock out to L7’s iconic tunes. It was heartwarming to witness new fans discovering the band and the sheer diversity among our audience members. It’s clear that L7’s music transcends so many of the kinds of divisions that can trick people into being divisive, and there’s no longer a specific “L7 Type.” We’re grateful for the continued evolution of our fanbase and the inclusivity that defines our community.

Here is a reminder of the L7 US SHOW DATES “IN YOUR SPACE:”
Thu, SEP 14 Wonder Bar Asbury Park, NJ
Sat, SEP 16 Brighton Music Hall Allston, MA
Sun, SEP 17 Gramercy Theatre New York, NY

Tue, OCT 3 House of Blues San Diego San Diego, CA
Thu, OCT 5 Aftershock 2023 Sacramento, CA
Sat, OCT 7 Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown, CA

After a brief interlude in Los Angeles, we took our music to South America, where we were met with open arms and unmatched enthusiasm. Returning to Brazil felt like reuniting with an old friend, and our shows in São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, and Rio de Janeiro were electric. The energy and passion of South American fans lit up the stage and reminded us why we do what we do.

2023-10-22 Ribeirão Preto, Brazil 🇧🇷 * @hrc.ribeiraopreto (this venue changed a few times – we played Hard Rock)

    2023-11-04 Bogata, Colombia 🇨🇴 @aceofspadesclub1

There was a little bit of concern that due to the pandemic and other factors, our S. Additionally, American fans and friends may have lost interest since our 2018 in Brazil shows — or that it really has been so so many years since we play the Hollywood Rock Festival and perhaps it would not be the best time for us…. especially not sure what to expect with Colombia and Argentina, two cities we visited for the first time.

However, everyone from São Paulo to Bogata, every show was fantastic! Those shows went off like a pressure cooker exploding with love. Our dates with Black Flag were incredible; they were tight, and it was great to see these songs in action for the Brazilian audience. A surprise appearance by L7’s Suzi Gardner on their song “Slip It In” (read more here). As in Chile, Santiago L7 fans packed out Club Blondie and showed us that nails-in-skin rock n’ roll is still alive and well throughout the capital. Club Blondie was a total, amazing surprise; it is (literally) an underground room about 4 floors deep, under the city, directly below an open-air market.

There is something unique about the warmth and intensity of L7 fans from South America. I just can not say that enough. Here, I will try and say it in Spanish and in Portuguese:

Hay algo único en la calidez y la intensidad de los fanáticos de L7 de Sudamérica.
Há algo único no calor e na intensidade dos torcedores do L7 da América do Sul.

the L7 journey doesn’t end here.

As we wrap up this incredible voyage through the Americas, we’re deeply humbled and grateful. It’s thanks to our dedicated fans that we’ve been able to rock on for four decades, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.

With anticipation building, we’re setting our sights on New Zealand and Australia for the L7 Tour in Australia 2023. Who knows what new adventures and memories await us Down Under? We’re excited to find out and to continue sharing our music with the world.

New Zealand and Australia, let’s see what you’ve got in store for us with the L7 Tour in Australia and New Zealand 2023.

  • Tony Slug Rip 2023

    Tony Slug Rip 2023

My heartfelt condolences go out to Tony “Slug” Leeuwenburgh’s daughter, sister, father, friends, families, and fellow rock comrades. Tony Slug passed away on October 7, 2023. It was a great honor to have known him as an innovator, entrepreneur, provocateur, and talented individual since our first meeting in 1986. Tony Slug had a very unique gift for storytelling. His anecdotes would make me burst into laughter and occasionally roll my eyes in disbelief. He had a passion for the bleeding edge in everything he did.

Over the past few decades, me and Tony Slug not only shared equipment, gig contacts, and music but also developed a shared passion for technology. In the 1990s we stayed connected on chat boards. Our friendship continued to flourish through early 2000s social media and most recently on Discord. We have gone to each other’s shows since the first L7 shows in the Netherlands in 1990 as I, too his.

During the time of our first meeting in the 80s, Tony Slug had his daughter Clio. One of my fondest memories is her arrival to this world. Then later in the mid-2000s, she became the tour and production manager for my band The Shocker on our EU tours. She shared her father’s wit and passion and is smart AF. We all had a blast.

Recently, In my refrigerator, I kept a bottle of Tony’s outrageously spicy and dangerous “hot sauce” for three years. Until it finally burned a hole through the bottle – he was obsessed with making and bottling the strongest hot sauce he “legally” could and he gifted me the sauce as a challenge.

However, one of the most cherished gifts he gave me was the opportunity to be his creative partner. Serving as the lead vocalist and collaborating on songwriting during the challenging 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Tony Slug attracted a remarkable group of individuals for this project. Including Lionn van der Horst, Steven van der Werff, Lauren Piston, Greta Brinkman (L7, Moby, Patti Smith), Cheetah Chrome of the Dead Boys, Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, and many more. Through our collective effort, we created music and formed deep connections and lasting good memories with each other and Tony.

Tony Slug became very ill while recording. It was an honor to hold this space for him and keep the flame going. Tony’s ability to unite people through his passion for music and community was truly remarkable. His legacy and energy will continue to inspire us all. He is fire.
